Review // Dragonfly Cocktail Bar Edinburgh

So today I had a lovely day, and obviously no lovely day would be complete without a cocktail. Since living in Edinburgh theres been a severe lack of cocktails in my life, and today I decided the void needed filling.

Dragonfly is a splendidly opulent cocktail bar located just off the Grassmarket in Edinburgh City Centre and although it doesn't look much from the outside, the inside is a beautifully lacquered eastern paradise.

When we went it was quiet (though I didn't expect much from 5.30pm on a friday) but I imagine that it would be a bustling nightspot later on at the weekend. The decor was oriental and combined modern with a vintage feel; think floral fabric coloured pillars, leafy greenery and a decadent chandelier. The menus also had a quirky feel, with a vintage record for the cover.

The setting was great but obviously this means nothing if the drinks aren't good, but I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the Watermelon Mmmartini: 'Absolut vodka shaken with fresh watermelon, mint and sugar to taste', and mmmm it was! This was definitely one of the best cocktails I have ever had, it tasted just like a watermelon! Usually I find watermelon flavoured things can be a bit artificial, but this used the real stuff and it felt like I was just eating the fruit.

My flatmate a got Raspberry Ripple: 'Absolut Vanilla, Absolut Raspberri, cream, milk and fresh raspberries,' which was also delicious! It was so cute served in a glass covered in hundreds and thousands! Definitely something I haven't seen before.

I would definitely recommend Dragonfly for anyone who loves a good cocktail! On average the drinks cost around £7 which I think is very reasonable for what you get. They were also that perfect balance between being alcoholic but not overpoweringly so, I really don't enjoy drinking something that tastes like a glass of pure vodka! They also do some interesting mixes and have a vast selection of wines and fizz, but honestly you've just got to go for a cocktail!

They have a website and a Facebook if you want to find out more, and I would definitely recommend that you do!

I will undoubtably be making a return before the end of this year, its just too good to stay away!

xoxo Tamsin :)
